  • Tip Toeing around the Real Issue

Hubby & I were discussing the news and this whole “book burning” mess.

His comment was this, ” No one seems to want to touch on the real issue.  The only reason people are freaking out and worried about all this Pastor & his book burning, is the fact that there’s only one major religion nowadays whose radical factions actually make a point of killing people.  Why won’t people admit that?”

What do you think about it?  Why should people be afraid for their safety in this day and age for something like that?

    Food for thought.

  • Another discussion about breeding.

Speaking with someone online today, I got the typical “Aww…no kids?” response after I told them I was CHOOSING not to have them.  Not sure why that’s such a downer for the general population.  I’ve always leaned towards the “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should” mentality, and this falls right into it.

The conversation actually started with a tweet about someone seeing an obviously pregnant woman smoking while taking a walk.  I responded with the obvious (to me anyway) response that it’s only been recently diagnosed as a health risk for babies, and that most of our parents and generations previously had smoking mothers.

My thoughts are that if you KNOW better and still choose to smoke, drink, take hardcore drugs etc while pregnant, then you REALLY shouldn’t come looking for handouts if the child you have birthed is now screwed up.

To me, that is the crime of selfishness, rudeness & a strange sense of entitlement that I don’t understand.  If I did that to my baby willingly & knowingly, then what gives ME the right to ask the REST of SOCIETY to pay for my screw up?  It’s not your problem, it’s mine and I did it intentionally through my own ignorance and lack of intestinal fortitude to not determine the bad habits should be stopped immediately.  If it happened thru no discernible fault of my own, or I adopted a child that developed issues, well then that’s another story entirely.

I also feel that as a responsible person, I do not need to pass on genetic defects that may increase the already fragile and distorted genetic pool that we are now living in.  I have poor eyesight, allergies and teeth that will get cavities if you look at them cross-eyed.  Those may seem trivial, but if you have enough people who aren’t in better genetic condition, breeding out of control, you run the risk of more genetic mutations and dilution of the genetic pool.

Anyone own a pet that is a specific “breed”?   Well, you know what I am talking about.  Look at the cows we eat or get milk from, the sheep we get wool from, the dogs & cats we breed as pets and the animals that run wild on earth. If you want to keep them strong and viable, then you breed the strongest, healthiest and most viable ones around to ensure that best genetic strength.  Poor Cheetah population is so interbred because we just about killed them off at one point, that their males now barley have any viable sperm with which to breed to keep the species viable.  How many people do you know who are trying in-vitro or other types of reproductive solutions because they are having breeding challenges?

Just because we, as the human species, are what we like to call sentient and at the top of the food  chain (not really, but whatever), and have some sort of faith system in place, doesn’t mean we aren’t also an animal that inhabits this planet.  It doesn’t mean we don’t all follow the same physiological rules as the rest of the species just because we can talk.  Some birds can talk.  Apes can use sign language.  Whales and dolphins use language and sentences.

Because I can doesn’t mean I will or even should.  As a sentient, intelligent being, I can make the choice to not pass on my defective physical genes if I so decide. Intellectually, as far as all the testing I have ever been subjected to has suggested, society may or may not lose out, but then, that’s not what it prizes anyway.  At least, not according to the media. Society wants either hot, sexy, somewhat vapid people to breed…nevermind if they can tie their own shoes.

There are enough people in society that probably shouldn’t be “Breeding” that are, so any population gap that I may leave will be filled.  I’m not worried.  Nor should you be….just don’t say “Awww… no kids?” when a person has told you they have CHOSEN not to have them.

Thank goodness I can still make THAT CHOICE!

  • Volunteering is great, but why not here?

So, I saw something posted about a pal’s daughter raising funds to do charity work in a foreign country to help children of the world and she has chosen a country in Africa to do this.

It struck me as somewhat odd and to be honest, a bit presumptuous.

She, like I , comes from a major world power that is seen to be pretty together as far as infrastructure etc goes, yet in the reality of it, both our countries could use some help for our kids too.

You never hear folks overseas talk about raising funds to go help children of the world – and their country of choice being the US, or Canada, or the UK or France.  It’s usually a country in Africa or South America.  Great. Awesome. What about the kids that are poor, malnourished, homeless, uneducated, starving that are living in the US, or Canada, or the UK or France?  They have the same need and are missing out on some of the same aide as the other kids, otherwise they wouldn’t be poor, malnourished, homeless, uneducated, starving and needing the help.

Think about it this way.  If you personally were a country in Africa or S. America, wouldn’t you wonder why folks always thought of you as inept and really needing more outside help because you just aren’t up to the task of figuring it out or helping yourselves?  I would actually become offended, not happy to always have the handouts and not have to do anything myself or been seen as actually a viable country able to take care of it’s citizens.

Do people other than me think of these things or these aspects of their actions and what they are requesting? Maybe, they choose those countries because its

    A) fashionable and the media has been reinforcing the idea to them that’s what’s cool

    B) the red tape in the US, or Canada, or the UK or France is just too much to deal with, so they shoot for places with less coordination governmentally

    C) or is it just ignorance or maybe confusion as to the real world goings on?

What are your thoughts?  I’m really curious to know.  I know this is paraphrasing, but hopefully some of you will get the underlying gist of my query/complaint.

That’s all from me… if I didn’t get this out, then I really wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.

Next month, it will probably change…. that’s the beauty of it really!

  • My Christmas Attempt for the Masses

This is probably as much as I can stomach this year. I tortured enough folks on Twitter this afternoon forcing myself to listen to Xmas tunes to get me feeling jolly or remotely excited about the holiday.

Didn’t work too well, as I still have no idea what I’m going to do about Xmas eve…. hubby is pissed off at my mom; she’s back here for the week…we were supposed to go to my Uncle’s house for Xmas Eve, & hubby said “Have fun with that”. I asked if he was refusing to go because mom was going to be there & it was confirmed.

Now she wants to make prime rib for dinner because “G likes THAT.” I haven’t told him yet, so am letting the coffee with eggnog aid in the churning of my stomach. I don’t think I can even beg him that his attendance & civility would be the best xmas gift ever (since he isn’t getting me anything anyway because he has no $$ and still no job).

In honor of my mood, I am including the lyrics to my last Xmas song of the day for you all to enjoy:
The Christmas Jug Band feat. Dan Hicks – “Somebody Stole My Santa Suit”

    Somebody Stole My Santa Suit
Somebody ripped off my beard, hat & boots
Some Little Fatso is all dressed in red
He even had the gall to swipe my pillow off my bed.

Now what are my kids going to think
    If Santa’s a no show?
Oh Boy They’ll raise a stink.
But deck the halls and what the hell,
I’ve still got my jingle bell.
So sucker, you can keep the suit,
    ‘Cause frankly I don’t give a hoot!

Yeah, Somebody Stole My Santa Claus Suit
Somebody ripped off my beard, hat & boots
Some Little Fatso is all dressed in red
He even had the gall to swipe my pillow off my bed.

Now what are my kids going to think
    If Santa’s a no show?
Oh Boy They’ll raise a stink.
But deck the halls and what the hell,
I’ve still got my jingle bell.
So sucker, you can keep the suit,
    ‘Cause frankly I don’t give a hoot!

But where o where’s my Santa Claus suit?
That getup set me back a bundle of loot.
    The beard alone was $4.98
The box it came was an antique orange crate.
    Somebody took the whole shebang.
If I find that roly poly mutha he’s gonna hang.

But gee, I guess that’s no way to be,
He might something good with all thanks to me.
So sucker, you can keep the suit,
    ‘Cause frankly I don’t give a hoot!

  • The Party’s over…

Another Halloween has ended for my family – at least the majority of them.

I went down to my dad’s house to see all the kids in their costumes and ready for candy. Needless to say they had a great time, we ate pizza & salad, the last of the Maple Bacon cupcakes and watched the candy exchange in full force.

All the kids are spending the night at dad’s house, while their parents all went off to their respective costume parties. I drove home to my spouse and dog, with 3 Tootsie Pops, 1 mini bag of Skittles, 1 Sour Apple Laffy Taffy & 1 Hershey’s bar – all from my oldest nephew. Since my arrival home, we are now down one Pomegranate Tootsie Pop.

They have all been bathed, changed and when I left them, cut off from eating any more candy! Here’s the gang.

    The Clown

    Batman

The Zombie Princess & her Brother the Warlock

The Zombie Princess Minus a Tooth

The Clown & Zombie Princess back to normal and saying goodnight!

Hopefully, the rest of you had just as much fun, if not more! Tomorrow, we celebrate the DEAD!!!!!

  • Riding the “Wave” and weathering the chop.

So, I am attempting to learn how to use Google Wave and the myriad bots, gadgets & extensions available to me in the beta testing phase. I figure, if you’re going to test it out, then why not try to test as much as possible, or at least as much as interests me.

Here’s where I attempt to insert a specific “WAVE” in to this blog entry…ready…wait for it…nope. I did something wrong, or maybe that “bot” isn’t working. Guess it’s back to reading the directions again…. harumpf!
